As a result, many surfers come to Biarritz to learn French while practising their passion on the Côte Des Basques: Biarritz’s most beautiful beach.

The school is located in the centre of Biarritz, 5 minutes’ walk from markets, restaurants, cafés and boutiques in the lively Halles district and only 10 minutes from the world-famous surf spot at the Côte des Basques beach.
The French surfing capital has a fascinating history: A former whale fishing harbour, Biarritz grew considerably in the 19th century when French Empress Eugenie, wife of Napoleon the Third, elected the city as her favourite vacation place. Eugenie used to come to Biarritz to enjoy sea swimming and other activities and very quickly, she was joined by the entire Napoleonic imperial aristocracy. The little city became a touristic, cultural and diplomatic centre. All of Europe joined Eugenie and Napoleon in the Basque Country to enjoy swimming in the Atlantic ocean. This singular history transformed Biarritz into a unique, rich, cultural city, despite its smaller size. Some buildings, built under Napoleon the Third in the Haussmannian style, underline this unique identity. Some might say that it is almost like a little corner of Paris nestled in the Basque Country by the ocean… but the locals might not appreciate that comparison!
