Learn the basics of French cuisine while practicing the French language in a relaxed atmosphere that facilitates oral communication!
Taking part in a cooking workshop in France is a sensory and educational experience that immerses participants in the art of French cuisine. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be welcomed into a setting that’s often charming, whether it’s a professional kitchen, a cozy workshop, or even the home of a local chef. The atmosphere is friendly and stimulating, conducive to learning and sharing.
The workshop usually begins with an introduction to the ingredients, often local and seasonal. The chef or host shares anecdotes about the products, explaining their origins, their importance in French cuisine, and why they are used. This introduction provides a better understanding of the importance of terroir and the quality of raw materials in French gastronomy.
Afterwards, participants get down to work under the chef’s careful instruction. They learn precise techniques, such as cutting, slicing, braising or preparing a classic sauce. Every gesture is explained, with tips for success, whether it’s a puff pastry, a béarnaise sauce, or a soufflé.
The workshop is also a time for sharing, where participants exchange impressions, ask questions and help each other out. The chef often encourages creativity, while respecting the basics of French cuisine, allowing everyone to add their own personal touch.
Once the dishes have been prepared, it’s time for the long-awaited tasting. Participants gather around a table to savor the dishes they’ve concocted. It’s an opportunity to discuss flavors, share culinary experiences and enjoy each other’s company. The chef can then comment on the dishes, offering further tips on how to reproduce them at home.
When you leave the workshop, you leave not only with recipes and techniques, but also with a new appreciation of French cuisine and the satisfaction of having created a meal worthy of the finest tables. It’s an enriching experience that combines learning, fun and cultural discovery.
French courses take place from Monday to Friday mornings at our school, on the basis of 20 lessons per week.
Following a placement test, you will be directed to the most appropriate class according to your level of French and your objectives. Classes are international and exclusively taught in French by experienced teachers with degrees in French as a foreign language. Group classes are limited to a maximum of 12 people, to give everyone more time to speak and encourage conversation and exchange.
Les ateliers FL have set up an online placement test, to be taken before your arrival, to assess your knowledge of written comprehension and production. This test will be supplemented by an oral interview on the first day of class to :
Evaluation during the stay
At Les ateliers FL every Friday, you will be assessed by your teacher to check that your progress is consistent and in line with the rest of the group.
Most Les ateliers FL schools are examination centers, so you can ask to take an official French exam at any time to assess and certify your level of French.
In addition, you benefit from personalized support to help you go further in your learning of the French language and culture, by working on your personal and professional learning objectives and needs.
At the end of your program, the school will issue you with an end-of-session certificate stating the number of hours attended and the level reached.
You will benefit from 2 sessions of 2 or 3 hours / week. Cooking classes are organized around your French classes and can take place in the morning, afternoon, evening (until 10:30 pm) or on weekends.
The timetable will be sent to you at least two weeks before the cooking classes (please note: cooking workshop times are subject to change by our partner).
Classes are run by qualified chefs with a wealth of experience and a particular desire to pass on their passion for French cuisine. They’ll be happy to share their know-how with you, and give you tips and tricks to make all your recipes a success.
The courses take place in Paris and Lyon, in modern, designer kitchens specially designed for the course.
You benefit from 2 cooking sessions of 3 hours each, in the afternoon from 3pm to 6pm.
The chef welcomes you to his kitchen to prepare a complete menu for you to enjoy. You’ll take home the recipes for the dishes you’ve cooked, so you can easily prepare them again. The course is suitable for all levels, whatever your cooking skills.
